is it possible to indicate whether a particular thread as a sticky or announcement under the thread name or some other means?
because by changing the icon on the left most side to indicate whether it is a sticky or not, we have lost the ability to see whether there are new posts to that thread.

Actually, you can add a different image for announcements with new replies through the template system. Phpbb does not provide an image for announcements with new replies, thats why we use the same image as for announcements without new replies.

btw, i have just tested out the new subforum feature. However whenever i make a post (administrator) and read all threads, even marking the forum as read, it doesn't show up in the forum index. the forum index will indicate that there are new replies even though i have read through all the threads for the subforums.
it will be cleared when other members of the forum make a post in the subforum though.
